Traditional Ways to Become a Pilot

It's the differences that make our program stand out from a typical flight-training program. It's also those differences that make our program so appealing to people who want to begin an airline career. What are those differences?

Traditionally, there have only been two ways to become a commercial airline pilot - via the military or by attending a flight school to earn your initial certificates and building flight time to develop the proficiency required to met the minimum hiring standards of commercial airlines.

Although flight minimums have been lowered recently at the regional level, it is imperative that your training and preparation is of the utmost quality. The Mesa program at San Juan College makes sense regardless of what the market conditions are. Failure rates of our pilot graduates are extremely low because they have exposure to the automated flight deck in the jet flight training device on campus and train with Mesa line pilots. Any time an airline has to prolong training to salvage a struggling pilot, it translates to higher costs for the company. Lack of preparation can mean failure and a termination on the pilot's record.

San Juan College Has A Better Way!

When you compare San Juan College's program to other flight schools, be sure you take the full cost of qualifying for airline jobs into consideration.

  • Consider the type of equipment you will be flying and the cost to build hours and proficiency.
  • Getting your certificates is only part of the cost.
  • Consider the potential income and seniority you may lose while waiting to become a commercial pilot while trying to acquire multi-engine time to meet minimums
  • Would you rather get acquainted with the automated flight deck than take your chances?
  • Consider the school's reputation and track record. Ask how many graduates from the program there are, how many have been hired?
  • Some programs claim to prepare you for any airline. Our training is designed to specifically train you for Mesa so that you know what to expect as a pilot for the company.
