Course Descriptions
(General Education Requirements)

BADM 134 SUPERVISION. This course is intended for those who either want to become supervisors or want to improve their present level of supervisory skills and knowledge. Management principles and their application to actual on-the-job situations are presented enabling students to contribute more effectively to the goals of the organization.

BADM 270 STRESS MANAGEMENT. This course deals with coping with stress at work and at home. Much time is spent on identifying stressful situations and how to manage and cope with such situations.

COSC 125 BUSINESS MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATIONS. This course is designed to provide students with the skills to utilize a microcomputer to accomplish business tasks. Students will be introduced to the use of such software as Database Management systems, Spreadsheets, and Word Processors.

ENGL 111 FRESHMAN COMPOSITION I. An introductory, college level course designed to develop critical reading skills, rhetorical and expository writing skills, documentation, and the creative use of the language. Prerequisite: ENGL 099 or qualifying score on placement exam.

ENGL 218 ADVANCED TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL WRITING. An advanced course in the theory and application of practical, informative writing. Emphasizes the organizational and presentation of technical information in a variety of formats and situations, to include memoranda, letters, reports, descriptions, explanations, summaries, resumes, interviews, and oral reporting. Additionally , the course also emphasizes the research process necessary to writing in advanced technical course work as well professional workplaces. Prerequisite: ENGL 111.

MATH 113 APPLIED MATH FOR VOCATIONAL STUDENTS. Review of basic math skills, measurement, and application of those skills required in vocational programs.

PHYS 111 INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICS. This course is not a lab science course and does not fulfill the requirement for lab sciences in the Associate of Arts Degree. A primarily conceptual approach to classical physics; mechanics, heat, sound, electricity, and magnetism. Intended for non-science majors and science majors who have not had high school physics. Prerequisite: MATH 096 or CPT.

SPCH 111 INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION. This course is designed to increase the student's awareness of the role that interpersonal communication plays in creating and maintaining personal and professional relationships. Emphasis of instruction is on improving one-to-one communication skills. Topics covered include self-concept, perception, non-verbal communication, listening, feedback, and effective use of language.
