o 1 Make sure that the Aviation Department has accepted you into the
Aviation program.
o 2 Make sure that San Juan College has received your Admissions application
along with a copy of your official transcripts. Please make sure that
you are an accepted student of the college and that you have declared
either AVIA or PACE as your intended program of study. The SJC Financial
Aid Office cannot help you with financial aid until you are an accepted
student of both the Aviation and Admissions offices!
o 3 Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at
www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you apply on-line it takes the government about
2 weeks for us to get the information. If you apply via a paper FAFSA
application, it takes the government about 6 weeks to get us the information.
Our federal school code is 002660-00. The FAFSA must be completed in
order for you to qualify for Federal grants, Stafford loans, work study,
and/or some scholarships.
o 4 Fill out the Federal Stafford Loan Application. It can be picked
up in the SJC Financial Aid Office. Loan limits for an academic year
are as followed:
$2625 Freshmen Dependent Student
$3500 Sophomore Dependent Student
$6625 Freshmen Independent Student
$7500 Sophomore Independent Student
$4000 PACE Student
o 5 Find an alternative loan lender and a co-signer, and fill out the
alternative loan application (speak with Financial Aid for the options of alternative loan lenders and their requirements).
