Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some of the graduates not get hired?

While it doesn't happen very often, it CAN and DOES happen that a pilot doesn't get hired by Mesa. Sometimes, it's as simple as blowing the interview - not being full prepared or coming off with a cocky attitude that comes across as "ok, I went through your program, I'm ready for my job". Even in today's market with the pilot shortage and a tendency for pilots to think that "they need me - I can go where I want", the airline MUST have highly qualified pilots with good work ethics. Airlines cannot compromise the safety of crews and passengers. Pilots who interview with the company face a bona fide airline interview; you're expected to have not only good flight skills but have good instrument knowledge, brief an approach, know FAA regulations - in other words be a responsible pilot. Occasionally, background history can surface as well at the point of hire but that's why we try to screen applicants carefully when you apply.

How can I succeed in the program?

Regardless of your flight time, if you come into training with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, you will succeed. We often tell students to make training their top priority - allow time for your family and your own obligations, but if you focus on your training and approach it with the same work ethic as you would to a job, you will do well. Be on time to class and to flights and act professional.
